KWETB Sports Promotion Units are amazing public initiatives, which bring together state agencies who have a role in the promotion and engagement in sport for young people.

KWETB has two Sport Promotion Units (SPU) based in Bray and Arklow. The aim of our SPUs is to facilitate and encourage young people into sporting activities that will assist them in their own personal growth; physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. We work to encourage young people to learn new skills and to be active within their community.

The SPUs have many partners. We provide sports and physical activity programmes to local primary and post-primary schools, youth clubs, resource centre youth groups, education centres and sports clubs. We assist with the setting up of sports camps during school holidays. We provide training and education programmes for parents, youth workers, leaders, teachers & sports coaches.

We play a lead role in devising, implementing and coordinating sports and physical activity initiatives for at risk children and young people aged between 10-21 years. Bray and Arklow SPU have developed strong links with local agencies, schools, community, youth groups and sports clubs and work in partnership with these groups.

We are currently progressing two exciting initiatives, one in Arklow (in the Marshlands Youth and Sport Centre) where the SPU are planning a Quidditch Cup (Harry Potter) with all the young people who attend the Centre taking part. This will be a first for the Arklow area and we hope to build on this event, opening it up to the rest of the town in

the future. The second in initiative in Bray, the SPU team are planning the Bray Get Active Challenge Initiative (BGAC), which will be open to all youth groups in the town. BGAC programme is all about having fun with physical activity and trying as many different sports as you can.
