WHERE CAN YOU GET HELP? Our knee-jerk reaction to the idea of asking for help is often a determination to go it alone; it feels overwhelming, on one hand, but, in our minds, it feels safer and gives us more control to keep everything to ourselves. If you take a step back and try to objectively consider the portions of your tasks where you can give up control without doing severe damage to your work, you probably can find a number of ways that others may be able to carry some of the load.
Your spouse and children can help around the house. Your co-workers can step in for a while to carry out certain responsibilities. Your supervisor may be able to re-assign some duties or re-arrange certain deadlines to accommodate. Your friends may be able to lend a listening ear, which can help tremendously, just to let you process some of your own thoughts and emotions.
Help is available, if you let your guard down, take some risks and consider options you have dismissed in the past. More than likely, you have people around you who are willing and able to lend a hand; you just have to ask. They can’ t read your mind and they probably won’ t take the risk of stepping on your toes. It really is up to you!
