MEET THE BOARD
KRISTY WILSON
Why did you volunteer to serve on the Board ? I was encouraged to get involved in the Young Agents from the time I started at Kellerman ’ s . It was a great way to meet people and being new , I learned from others . Volunteering for the various committee work over the years has taught me so much . I served a couple times as the Young Agents chair , which gave me a few rounds of going to the big board meetings . I guess they finally decided if I was going to keep hanging around , I should serve ! Many have said it , so I will join those ranks . I have gotten so much more out of serving on the Board than I have had to put into it .
What do you hope to achieve as a board member ? I am not sure I had any big goals when I first started serving as a board member other than learning the ins and outs of the association and finding ways to serve our membership . As President , I thought it would be so awesome if every agent would contribute at least $ 25 to InsurPac . I am not a political person and don ’ t like a lot of the processes in the political world . However , I have learned by serving on the Board that we have some super sharp people working on our behalf both at the State and National levels . Sure , we could all ride on the shirttails of those who contribute and still get the benefits . But wouldn ’ t you rather know that you actually had a part in it ? These individuals have helped protect our industry from all kinds of harm . Wouldn ’ t you pay $ 25 to protect your livelihood ? Sorry for my soapbox moment !
What about being in the insurance industry drives you ? I enjoy helping people learn what they are buying . Insurance is not something most people enjoy paying for , and many think it is a rip-off . Those people probably have never had to use it or have not witnessed how much it has helped people . People often don ’ t understand what they are buying , and I feel that is why it can seem like it is a waste of money . I won ’ t lie , though . I am passionate about it and find it to be very frustrating . I am only human !
What skills or experience do you bring to the association and its members ? Great question ! I don ’ t think I have any special skills other than I am willing to volunteer my time and want to do what I can to help our industry and members of this association .
When your insurance hat comes off , what do you enjoy doing ? We have a side by side that we spend a lot of time on . Several of our friends do as well , so a lot of backroads cruising happens ! I don ’ t run races like I used to , but I do still enjoy running and fitness . We also enjoy traveling !
