MEET THE BOARD
What do you hope to achieve as a board member ? Much like my response above , I hope to have provided a valuable contribution to work that is important to the KAIA and its member agents . And there ’ s no question that I ’ ve learned much from others and developed lasting friendships .
What about being in the insurance industry drives you ? Insurance is a complex changing business based on an intangible product . Promises are made to our clients , contained in legal contracts . And these promises are only delivered after something bad happens . So unlike almost every other product a consumer purchases that makes them feel better , ours provides a different kind of emotion , one that assures future security . So , insurance consumers don ’ t typically like the process of buying insurance because it involves something that someone else is requiring of them . It can be confusing and complicated . That is what drives me ; Our ability to simplify this process and tailor an insurance plan to meet the buyer ’ s specific needs . And then be their advocate to guide them through future risks they face and claim problems .
What skills or experience do you bring to the association and its members ? Being an independent insurance agent for nearly 43 years , I ’ ve been a student of our business as well as an instructor for the AAI designation . I ’ ve been a member of insurance company advisory boards and business groups and currently serve on the Board of the Kansas City Association of Insurance Agents . As others have given their time and energy to help me , I ’ d like to do the same to pay it forward .
