ADVOCACY
• Tort Reform & Reducing Legal Costs( Sub for SB 54): With rising insurance premiums due to extreme weather and litigation costs, KAIA supports legal reforms that maintain a fair judicial system while limiting lawsuit abuse. SB 54, which requires disclosure of third-party litigation financing, passed the Senate 39-1 and now heads to the House Judiciary Committee.
• Insurance Savings Accounts( SB 25): A taxincentivized mechanism to help Kansans save for rising insurance premiums and deductibles, KAIA firmly supports this initiative. The bill is currently with the Senate Taxation & Assessment Committee.
• Kansas Department of Insurance Legislation: KAIA remains supportive of efforts to improve regulatory efficiency, including: » SB 24 / HB 2050(" Up To " Bill): Granting the
Insurance Commissioner flexibility to set and lower fees.
» SB 42 / HB 2047: Establishing an online insurance verification tool to reduce uninsured motorists( SB 42 passed the Senate 38-2; HB 2047 passed the House 121-0).
» HB 2043 / SB 23: Adjusting response times for consumer complaints while maintaining a reasonable timeframe for professional licensure inquiries.

CONNECTING WITH LEGISLATORS
CAA’ S THEME FOR 2025 HAS BEEN DISRUPT, AND WE’ VE DONE JUST THAT.
Agents had the opportunity to meet with their individual representatives to discuss issues affecting their businesses and communities. These conversations allowed agents to share firsthand experiences and advocate for policies that strengthen the industry.
During lunch in the North Wing, attendees continued networking with legislators, fostering relationships that will help ensure the voices of independent agents remain at the forefront of legislative decisionmaking.
