COVERED LE: That’s a big question. First, I would say persistence would have to be very high on the list. Plus good moral character and desire to help people. Second, you need to listen purposefully with the attitude that you can find a way to offer help. I know that when we take care of clients in the right fashion, and do the right thing, we don’t need to sweat the rest. K: What do you do to stay up to date in what is happening in the industry? LE: I read and listen a lot. Participate in association events, etc. as a speaker or join a class. K: What have you learned in the last year? LE: LOTS! I have learned more about my own company since COVID-19 in the last four and a half months than I have learned in over 11 years. K: If you were able to sit yourself down 10 years ago, what advice would you give your younger self? LE: There is always a good solution, and it is within me to draw it out. Never focus on the obstacle but on the desired end. K: What are the most important lessons you’ve taken away? LE: Where there are knowledge and desire, there is a solution. K: Can you tell us about a time when you almost gave up, how you felt about that, and what you did instead of giving up? LE: January 2008, I was facing the most change with the least support. I pressed through, focused on the expected good outcome, launched into the difficult things and took a lot of advice. K: On your very best day at work —the day you come home and think you have the best job in the world — what did you do that day? LE: Helped someone by solving a pestering problem of some type. At the end of a time period, when I look back and see what faithfulness to my daily routines has accomplished. That can be so satisfying. K: What advice would you give to someone looking to make a transition into the insurance industry? LE: Serve your client and carrier partners in excellence. Consistency in this will pay dividends for years to come. K: Tell us about a person or organization that you admire. LE: I greatly admire my Territory Director, Joe Clayton. He is a leader that serves, all the time. He has great ideas and is happy to share them. He always listens ….to the end. And, he always has a suggestion and is never stuck in his own way. K: Do you consider yourself lucky? LE: Not lucky, no. But, I do recognize that I most always finish ahead. K: What woman/women inspires you, and why? LE: My daughter. She has faced a lot of obstacles yet never fears taking on yet another one. She never focuses on the obstacle, but sees herself overcoming it. She always finishes well. K: What qualities make a great leader? LE: Selfless-minded. They always think of the greater good and of the greatness in other people around them. Service-minded. There is no one on this planet that is not put here to serve in some fashion. K: What questions can agents/owners ask you that can help them gain better control of their finances? LE: Tell me about Agency Funding Participation™ K: Are there any assumptions about women that you would like to change? Why? LE: Yes! We should stop assuming the agency owners and top producers or the top executives are men! Wrong thoughts and assumptions are limiting – both selflimiting and limiting others’ perceptions. K: If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? LE: Public Speaker K: What do you believe will be the greatest challenge for the generation of women behind you? 20
