KAIA OFFERS LOTS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION CHOICES
LYLE DAVIDSON
KAIA President
A
s school begins anew this fall, it’s a good time
to review the continuing industry changes we
face and the education we need to stay up to
date. As agents we must stay abreast of the changes to
current policies as well as the new risk management
challenges that continue to arise. How best to manage
our daily work and stay informed.
I’m challenged with two children who are not avid
readers. To be honest, neither am I. My last read was
A Course Called Ireland that Tom Murry encouraged
me to read before making an Ireland golf trip. Three
years and 10 plane rides later, I finished the book!
However, I do make time in the evenings, weekend,
and plane rides, to read the latest articles in KIA&B
magazine, IA magazine, and KAIA newsletters. The
value in staying informed on current coverage issues
as well as future challenges is important. In the
middle of one of our conversations on IRAs during
one of our long treks back from a baseball weekend
(yes, I force my 14-year-old listen to me rattle on about
financial issues) he interrupted and asked me how I
knew such things. A great opportunity to reinforce
reading as learning was not missed!
and second, we are blessed to have an association
committed to quality education and not just quick
and cheap hours. If we truly wish to be experts in our
industry, we can’t settle for our mandatory crop hours,
or getting those 12 license hours the week before our
renewal. Our association provides access to timely
industry specific education that will assist us, and our
staff, with the information needed to appropriately
address our insured’s risk management needs.
October brings our Leadership and Development
Conference, one of my favorite events of the year.
On-site risk management tours, E&O sessions, expert
panels, industry awards, legislative update
