| PRESIDENT’S PAGE | Back To School KAIA OFFERS LOTS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION CHOICES LYLE DAVIDSON KAIA President A s school begins anew this fall, it’s a good time to review the continuing industry changes we face and the education we need to stay up to date. As agents we must stay abreast of the changes to current policies as well as the new risk management challenges that continue to arise. How best to manage our daily work and stay informed. I’m challenged with two children who are not avid readers. To be honest, neither am I. My last read was A Course Called Ireland that Tom Murry encouraged me to read before making an Ireland golf trip. Three years and 10 plane rides later, I finished the book! However, I do make time in the evenings, weekend, and plane rides, to read the latest articles in KIA&B magazine, IA magazine, and KAIA newsletters. The value in staying informed on current coverage issues as well as future challenges is important. In the middle of one of our conversations on IRAs during one of our long treks back from a baseball weekend (yes, I force my 14-year-old listen to me rattle on about financial issues) he interrupted and asked me how I knew such things. A great opportunity to reinforce reading as learning was not missed! and second, we are blessed to have an association committed to quality education and not just quick and cheap hours. If we truly wish to be experts in our industry, we can’t settle for our mandatory crop hours, or getting those 12 license hours the week before our renewal. Our association provides access to timely industry specific education that will assist us, and our staff, with the information needed to appropriately address our insured’s risk management needs. October brings our Leadership and Development Conference, one of my favorite events of the year. On-site risk management tours, E&O sessions, expert panels, industry awards, legislative update
