Keeping updated through technology

O
ne of the initiatives championed in the first
part of my term as insurance commissioner has
been the increased emphasis on technology to
make insurance procedures easier for agents
and consumers. We have had success in that area with
a redesigned Kansas Insurance Department website,
www.ksinsurance.org, as well as increased social media
presence for the department on Facebook, Twitter and
YouTube.
Part of that initiative includes making sure agents have
increased online resources too. And although our
online procedures for agent/agency licensing have been
available for several years, we still have many agents call
us for information and guidance that is available for
them in a self-service mode on our website. Here’s some
information about these self-service features.
Under our Producers Resources icon on our homepage,
the Producers Desktop area provides a range of useful,
private services. The Desktop area makes it easier for
an agent licensed in Kansas to do business with KID.
Transmission of all data in the Desktop area is encrypted,
making this a secure service. Using the resource features
allow for a faster, smoother workload at the department,
which helps keep our budget costs lower and your results
available quicker.
Services provided also include online resident license
application and license self-service options. Agents
can also update their contact information with
the department. Excess lines agents can file their
certifications and taxes online.
Resident agents can either display continuing education
courses submitted online by providers or courses they sent
to the department to be recorded. This is especially handy
for those who are already licensed. When resident agents
