| YOUNG AGENTS profile | Austin Renn Years in Industry: 8 Contact Info: [email protected] AUSTIN RENN Young Agents Committee President How did you get into the Industry? Insurance has been a part of our family since 1933 and I approached my Dad a couple of years out of college inquiring about a possible opportunity to work for the agency. What benefits do Young Agents bring to the Industry? Young agents bring motivation, youth and new ideas in this ever-changing technological world. How do you see the Industry Changing in the next 5-10 years? I foresee technology being a big driver in the next 5-10 years. For example, self-driven cars, Uber and even the simple agent to client relationship could change the way we do business. Who/What has been your greatest resources in this industry and why? Other than my peers and the other young agents currently in the business, I would say my Dad. He encouraged me to get involved and to hit the ground running. Whether it be taking me to his meetings, sending me to different product knowledge courses or learning from experienced agents in our industry; all of this combined helped me become the producer/agent I am today. What is your greatest reward as an independent insurance agent? Would you encourage your own children to be in the insurance industry? Absolutely: The freedom and flexibility is endless in the insurance industry. The sky is your limit when it comes to your success. What advice would you like to share with Principals who have been in the business more than 10 years? Be willing to listen to new ideas and possible changes that young agents bring to the table. We are the future! What are your future Plans? My future plans are to continue to grow my book of business while growing the agencies as well. I would also like to become the principal of our agency in the near future as well as continuing my involvement with KAIA. Tell us 3 tips that you would give to an incoming young agent? 1) 2) 3) Get involved with other young agents as it gives you the opportunity to network with peers, share successes and failures to help grow your book. Don’t be afraid to ask questions as our industry is always changing. Product knowledge and sales training is very important. Take courses to help you in your first two years. My greatest reward as an independent insurance agent is knowing that I will be able to maximize resources with numerous carriers while protecting assets for our current and future clients. 8 KANSAS INSURANCE AGENT & BROKER |January-February 2016|
