Commissioner Column
has been active in recruiting funding for use in program development and scholarships to students seeking the certificate.
We are excited about the possibilities of expanding this program. The Kansas insurance industry is an $ 18 billiona-year industry in the state. However, Kansas, as well as many other states, will soon be faced with a shortage of insurance industry employees. We think this initiative will help curtail the shortage and provide Kansans with goodpaying, secure employment.
More than $ 260,000 has been contributed to the program by insurance companies doing business in Kansas. The money is being used for class instructional use and for student scholarships. Contributors to the initiative are Security Benefit, Alliance Companies, State Farm Mutual Insurance, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Aflac, Upland Mutual Insurance, KAMMCo, Advisors Excel, Kansas Mutual Insurance, Midwest Health, Inc., American Family, The Bremen Farmers Mutual, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, Marysville Mutual Insurance Co., Delta Dental of Kansas, Famers Insurance, Shelter Life Insurance, Nationwide Mutual Insurance and Capitol Federal Foundation. If you would like to know how to assist in either one of these campaigns, please contact Cindy Hermes, KID Director of Public Outreach, at( 785) 296-7803.
