Renewed relationships
Strengthening the agent-department relationship

D
uring the first three months of my stewardship
as Kansas Insurance Commissioner, we have
taken steps to strengthen our ties to the agent
community. Through these steps, Kansas
Insurance Department personnel and I have come
away with a renewed sense of just how important agentconsumer-department relations can be.
In January, department personnel staffed a booth and I
made a presentation at the Larry Magill Rural and Small
Agents Conference in Hutchinson. February meetings
with agents included the Agents Advisory Council here at
the department and two presentations at NAIFA chapter
meetings in Salina and Topeka.
Our common interests in educating and advocating for
consumers extend well beyond our meetings. Just like
your interests in helping your communities through
outreach and volunteerism, our efforts to improve our
department’s visibility and usefulness to Kansans are on
the upswing.
We have been working since I took office to put our
website in a consumer-and-agent-friendly mode. I think
our updated site, www.ksinsurance.org, will provide you
with a quicker way to gather the information you want.
Many new drop-down boxes on our cleaner, more open
home page will get you quickly to where you want to go.
Look for the changes to go into effect this spring.
