How to build
a joyful organization
W
ith a new year upon us, it is a time of reflection and planning. No matter our
position, each of us influences others either positively or negatively. I encourage
you to find and seek ways to be joyful in all you do and spread that joy by
encouraging others in your workplace.
One of my personal goals is to find the silver lining in everything, focus on the positive
and build one another up. I am joyful for all of our clients, past, present and future. I am
joyful and look forward to this year’s opportunities to continue helping others reach their
individual and organizational goals.
By being joyful, we can build a “joyful organization,” one where employees contribute fully,
encourage each other and enjoy their work. Here are 10 action items you can use to build
or sustain a joyful organization:
communicate
Some say money is king.
Experience has shown me
that communication is king sharing our thought processes,
the how, the why, the purpose
of the goal, the change,
etc. Employees crave being
included, as we all do. Inclusion
can be achieved through
communication.
praise
Be specific in telling others
what they do well. Praise with
small tokens of appreciation.
Verbal praise, both privately
and publicly, goes further than
we realize.
set expectations
Expectations must be known to
be achieved. Yes, this requires
more communication!
