CORE CONCEPTS The following are core concepts that should be addressed during this session: - Self - Family - Roles - Responsibility OUTLINE OF THE SESSION - Welcome - Climbing down the Tree exercise - The feeling thermometer - Ice-breaker - People sorting ICE-BREAKER People sorting Aim: This game encourages children to think about the kinds of things they prefer and gives them a chance to experiment with not just going along with the group. Time: 10 minutes Materials needed: None Activity The facilitator makes up categories, and the players respond accordingly. Children must choose among the possibilities offered. Examples: - "Everyone who likes chicken best stands over here, and people who like fish best stand over there, and people who like them both the same stand in the middle." - "Everyone who likes to read stories stands here, those who would rather watch TV stand there, and if you like both the same, stand here." - " If you enjoy playing alone stand here; if you enjoy playing with one or two others, stand there and if you enjoy playing in a group best, stand here." - Other possibilities: *Prefer to swim, prefer to dance or prefer to run *Prefer to eat vegetables, prefer to eat fruits or prefer to eat none of them *Prefer bubblegum, prefer sweets or prefer chocolate *Prefer pink, prefer blue or prefer yellow HIV Intervention Programme for the ENHANCEMENT OF CHILDREN'S RESILIENCE 95
