ACTIVITY 2: MY FAMILY EXERCISE My family Aim: To introduce the children to each other's families and put them into context. Materials: Paper and crayons Description: Each child is asked to draw a picture of their family and then, in turn, to tell the group who is who in their family. Time: 20 min. Guidelines: The children are invited to draw their families on a large sheet of paper. A pre-drawn house can motivate younger children. Discussion - Ask the children to tell the group briefly who is who in their family. - Encourage them to mention all the important people in their family, even if they do not live with them. - Ask the group to indicate why every member in their family is important to his or her family. - Talk about family roles and why everyone's specific role is important in a family. Climbing up the Tree exercise Closing BACKGROUND FOR THE FACILITATOR Be aware of how the children react when introducing the body-map activity. Focus with the discussions on how the child sees him or herself and his or her role in the family. ASSESSMENT - Is the child able to describe himself or herself? - Does the child have an idea how his or her family sees him or her?
