October 2016 News Letter Past Events and our Experiences : Metro Food Drive “It was me, Dani, and Sheyla, and we left in the morning and commuted there together. We got there pretty early, and met up with Mrs. Silke. We then proceeded to the entrance of the Metro where our task was to ask if people wanted a cart then proceed to ask if they would like to purchase a $5 bag of canned goods that they could pay at the Cash then put in a box where it would be going to a local charity for donation. We ended up filling 2 boxes during our shift, and it was a great experience for dealing with rejection when people ignore you, but also seeing all the kind and generous people who were feeling thankful and donated.” - Jill Yang, Vice-President Humewood Fall Festival Commencement “It was my first time volunteering at Commencement, and it was great. I was handing out the gowns to the graduates and this gave me a opportunity to get to know the graduates! The after party in the gym was decorated magnificently with tons of food. Overall I had lots of fun! ” - Arlene So, Bulletin Editor. “The event over all was an awesome experience! I was assigned to the job of selling raffle tickets, and beside my booth was an awesome DJ. While I was volunteering I also got to meet a lot of new people and they were all very friendly. Not to mention, the organizers were awesome as well. They helped me get everything set up and visited me from time to time to see how I was doing. Overall it was an awesome event and I wish I can volunteer there again sometime.” - Billy Madonis, Member Wychwood Barns “Wychwood Barns invited key club members to volunteer with their annual Halloween Party. I along with many others attended to help out. Before the event had started, I helped out with the decorating the Haunted House with tombstones and spreading out the cotton cobwebs. Once the party started I had many different jobs to do. First, I was located to the front entrance where I was responsible to let people know that strollers were not permitted into the event. Then I was repositioned to work at the candy booth, where I would sell candies in exchange for tickets. Lastly I went and worked at the “Haunted House” booth where I created tallies of the adults and children entering the station. I would definitely recommend this volunteering opportunity for everyone, it was fun and it will help develop your “people interaction skills” because you will be interacting with children and adults. ” - Michelle Yang, Member
