DISTRICT CONVENTION
T
70 TH E ASTERN Canada District Convention happened
at the beginning of April, in Niagara Falls during the
weekend. It was my last year attending one of these
conventions and I was happy to share the memories with
eight other key clubbers from Harbord. The weekend was a
blast with a full schedule of workshops, celebration of a
successful Key Club year and electing next year’s Eastern
Canada District board team. I saw familiar faces and finally
met other key clubbers that I have been talking to all year
long through online meetings as well as a lot of other
inspirational key clubbers at the district convention. This
year’s district convention was the most successful one in my
Key Club career. We won the Most Distinguished Club Award-
Diamond Level which is an award that is given to the highest
achieving club in Eastern Canada. One of the judges even
commented “There’s no doubt that this club won diamond”
when handing in the papers to the head of the Awards
Committee, indicating that our score significantly stood out
from all the clubs. A big shout out to Emily Hau, our
scrapbook editor who relentlessly worked on the scrapbook,
she committed numerous hours of her time to finish a
masterpiece. Her leadership and hard work paid off as
Harbord won 2nd place for the Traditional Scrapbook which
will be moving on to compete at the International Convention
held in San Antonio, Texas. I am proud to announce that your
president, I, Adrian Lo won the Most Outstanding Key Clubber
Award. It was an honour to receive this award because it
shows how involved I was with Key Club and how many hours
I committed towards district meetings, divisional events and
most importantly towards my home club! I am also proud to
announce that our Single Service Report won first place on a
Bronze level and will also be competing at the International
Convention. I was told by the head of the Awards Committee
that Harbord received a perfect score however due to our
member count we were only eligible to win at the Bronze
level. I would like to formally thank Ms. Sue, our faculty
advisor for dedicating her personal time by helping with the
contest, organizing a smooth trip to DCON and back, as well
as volunteering to help at DCON. This year’s DCON has been
the best, it has allowed me to realize that this year was a very
successful one.
