Digital Toolkit
Open Educational Resources for Community Health Nursing
With a collaborative approach to implementing cost-effective student resources , Keiss Library jointly developed an Open Educational Resource ( OER ) with faculty from the Frances M . Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions .
Piloted in the Fall of 2021 , the OER Digital Toolkit was developed as course material for NUR 422 Community Health Nursing . The Digital Toolkit is designed to maintain an up-to-date compilation of scholarly resources and practical reference guides in a variety of formats for students to access while on the go . More specifically , it is intended to be a tool that senior nursing students can reference when making clinical visits to homebound patients . It is currently available to students at no cost on the library ' s website as a LibGuide .
The adoption of the OER into nursing instruction helps advance the mission of Gwynedd Mercy University to support social justice in a global society , foster diversity and equity , and prepare students for successful careers and meaningful lives . In the spirit of OERs , this Digital Toolkit collaboration will continue to evolve , with the next phase being its implementation into the University ' s Learning Management System , Canvas .
Dr . Patricia Brown O ' Hara , who worked closely with Keiss Library on the toolkit , said , " The library staff were so great to work with ... they were so creative in helping me set up the LibGuide and develop a beautiful checklist for the students to use . I could not have done this project without them !"
