Postgraduate Prospectus 2017 Environmental Sustainability and Green Technology Overview The ability to live sustainably as populations and energy needs continue to grow is one of the most important challenges our planet faces. The need for employable graduates with relevant skills to work fluently across technical, economic, political and social disciplinary boundaries to ensure future energy security has never been greater. This course gives you an interdisciplinary understanding of environmental challenges and technology solutions through a taught programme delivered by leading researchers and specialists in geosciences, energy generation, clean technology, biological science, green information technology, environmental policy and politics and project management. Your in-depth research project will tailor your course experience to deepen your understanding and experien ce in an area you are passionate about and advance your career path. Your project is the opportunity to collaborate with relevant private and/or public sector organisations to study real world problems, giving you valuable professional experience. Our campus has unrivalled potential as a unique hub for research, development and demonstration of a range of environmental and sustainable technologies. Most teaching will take place at Keele’s Sustainability Hub – a centre for research and public and business engagement. The Hub is a demonstrator for new technologies including: solar thermal and PV; climate control and underfloor heating; smart lighting system; rainwater harvesting; ground source heat; bio-fuel woodchip burner; and a prototype vertical axis wind turbine. During the programme you’ll take eight taught modules (four core and four options) and a research project either at Keele or with an industrial collaborator. It offers a great range of science and social science modules enabling the student to understand environmental sustainability on many different levels, something lacking in many other environmental courses.
