Environmental Sustainability
and Green Technology
Overview
The ability to live sustainably as populations and energy needs
continue to grow is one of the most important challenges our
planet faces. The need for employable graduates with relevant
skills to work fluently across technical, economic, political and social
disciplinary boundaries to ensure future energy security has never
been greater. This course gives you an interdisciplinary understanding
of environmental challenges and technology solutions through
a taught programme delivered by leading researchers and specialists
in geosciences, energy generation, clean technology, biological
science, green information technology, environmental policy and
politics and project management. Your in-depth research project
will tailor your course experience to deepen your understanding
and experien ce in an area you are passionate about and advance
your career path. Your project is the opportunity to collaborate
with relevant private and/or public sector organisations to study
real world problems, giving you valuable professional experience.
Our campus has unrivalled potential as a unique hub for research,
development and demonstration of a range of environmental and
sustainable technologies. Most teaching will take place at Keele’s
Sustainability Hub – a centre for research and public and business
engagement. The Hub is a demonstrator for new technologies including:
solar thermal and PV; climate control and underfloor heating; smart
lighting system; rainwater harvesting; ground source heat; bio-fuel
woodchip burner; and a prototype vertical axis wind turbine. During the
programme you’ll take eight taught modules (four core and four options)

Choosing the MSc Environmental
Sustainability and Green Technology
is one of the best decisions I’ve made.
It offers a great range of science and
social science modules enabling the
student to understand environmental
sustainability on many different levels,
something lacking in many other
environmental courses.
