KMS Bloomberg
Investment Competition
Michael Bloomberg established
his namesake financial news and
information company in 1981 and
it remains today a leader in the
market for business media. Its core
Bloomberg Professional Service
Platform provides real-time
financial news, market data and
analysis and is used by financial
professionals worldwide. It is this
platform which is used by KMS
students on the MSc Finance and
MSc Financial Risk Management
programmes to gain real-time,
real-life experience of trading.
This year, KMS held our first Keele
Bloomberg Investment competition
in which participants were required
to make investment decisions using
real data, news and company reports.
This involved using the Bloomberg
Professional Services Platform in
a very similar way as an equity
analyst in the City or on Wall Street.
The goal of the competition was to
enable the participants to devise
a strategy and trade on it, develop
research and analytical skills using
Bloomberg and keep abreast of the
latest developments in the market.
The competition ran from
15th November 2013 until
5pm (London time) on 14th
March 2014 and prizes were
awarded on 7th May to
first prize winner, Christine
Kithinzi (MSc Financial Risk
Management) who received
a cheque for £250; second
prize winner Yusuf Musa
Shaba (£150) and third prize
winner Yu-Ting Chen (£100).
