Venture / HELLO 19 A Year in Industry All Keele Management School undergraduates can opt to spend a paid year in industry between year two and three of their degree course, gaining valuable work experience before returning to their final year to complete their studies. This gives students the opportunity to link theory and practice together for a greater understanding of the business environment, and develop a whole host of key, transferable skills employers are actively recruiting for. Throughout the entire process both students and staff benefit from the dedicated support provided by the KMS Student Placement Officer, Sharon Farrow. Sharon supports KMS students in searching for jobs and identifying suitable roles, helping with preparation for applications and interviews, one to one advice sessions and provides a main point of contact with the University during the placement. The placement process offers employers a free, professional and efficient recruitment service and the promise of continued support and guidance throughout the entire placement process. KMS can organise many aspects of the recruitment process such as vacancy promotion via our online jobs board and direct email to relevant student cohorts. Students may either apply directly to the organisation or the School can collate applications and send them directly to the employer at no cost. It is also possible to for interviews to take place on campus at no charge. Employers can also benefit from access to a pool of talented students with the skills and energy to inject creative and innovative ideas into their business. It can be a cost-effective and low risk method of recruitment and provides an opportunity to talent spot prior to the graduate recruitment cycle. Many employers also find that a student placement can be an opportunity to increase capacity on current projects, take forward ideas which have been difficult to resource and develop leadership and management skills for existing staff. Keele Management School can also help raise the profile of organisations on campus. This can be achieved through weekly placement bulletins, social media promotion, direct email and face to face through lectures and meetings with students. We are always happy to welcome employers onto campus for an opportunity to meet with students and staff through presentations and fairs and are happy to discuss bespoke arrangements.
