(b) Minimum Wages Act : The Labour Department of the State Government prescribes the
minimum daily or monthly wages to each category of skilled and unskilled workman at
different places in the State and it is the duty of the contractor to pay these wages. The
Owner also can be hauled up in court if the labour inspector reports that minimum wages are
not paid at a particular site. But the contractor gets round this by keeping fake muster rolls.
This should be avoided and the Owner should check that the correct wages are paid. For

(c) Workmen’s Compensation Act : accidents happen at site due to various causes and the
workman gets injured and sometimes gets killed. This Act prescribes how the work man or his
