"WE NEED CLEAN WATER."
“I commend you for shouting,
screaming, yelling if necessary to
get the response the people of San
Juan deserve,” she continued. “It
is our duty to our citizens. It is
our families, our friends, and our
neighbors, we are serving.”
Like the mayor of Puerto Rico,
Weaver has “shouted, screamed
and yelled” as she has led efforts
in Flint demanding attention from
state and federal officials for
assistance dealing with multiple
looming crises. She has appealed
to Michigan’s governor and
federal officials. Even President
Obama urged her and Governor
Snyder to find a way to work
together to resolve the crisis.
For two years she has been
crisscrossing the country to
gather resources for Flint.
Appealing to congressional
leaders, grassroots organizations,
community groups, non-profit
organizations and influential
stakeholders, she has asked for
bottled water, filters, water
studies, health services, a registry
for victims and funding to replace
eighteen thousand corroded lead
service lines.
