Bonjour! Originaire de Quaqtaq, du
côté de la baie d’Ungava, je suis père de
trois jeunes enfants. J’ai commencé à
m’impliquer dans notre coopérative en tant
qu’employé et, en 1994, je suis devenu un
membre élu du conseil d’administration. Je
fais partie du comité directeur de la Fédération des coopératives du Nouveau-Québec
(FCNQ) depuis 5 ans.
C’est à l’invitation d’un ancien de
Quaqtaq que j’ai développé mon intérêt
pour le mouvement coopératif et que je m’y
suis impliqué. Il était important d’associer
la jeunesse à ce mouvement, car les autres
jeunes et moi-même représentions l’avenir
de notre coopérative. Il nous importe,
à ma communauté et moi, d’avoir notre
propre coopérative; une coopérative qui
est là, tout près, une coopérative où nous
pouvons nous procurer tout ce dont nous
avons besoin dans notre vie quotidienne.
Il nous importe également que toutes les
coopératives jouissent d’une autonomie
complète, dans la mesure du possible. Il arrive en effet que certaines d’entre elles aient
besoin du soutien d’autres coopératives et
de la FCNQ pour bien fonctionner. Enfin,
que dire de nos employés, c’est grâce à eux
que nous pouvons garder notre coopérative
à flot et atteindre nos objectifs budgétaires
chaque année. La coopération est au cœur
de l’activité des coopératives et de la FCNQ
car elle préserve l’égalité entre les coopératives et favorise l’entraide.
Après des années d’absence, voilà que
réapparait Kanguq, le bulletin de la FCNQ.

an employee and became an elected member of the board of directors in 1994. I have
been part of the FCNQ Executive Committee for the last 5 years.
I became more involved and interested in
the cooperative movement when an elder
from Quaqtaq suggested that I take part. It
was a way to involve the youth and we, as
young people at the time, were considered
to be the future of our co-op. So it is important to me and our community to have our
co-op, one that is able to provide for everyday essentials right in our community and
not in another. It is very important that our
co-op and other co-ops be autonomous, or
at least partly because, as it is now, sometimes there are certain co-ops that need the
aid of other co-ops and the FCNQ to function well. As well, our employees are the
main force keeping our co-op afloat - without them we would not gain any revenue
and keep our annual budget attainable each
year. Cooperation is a crucial part for all the
co-ops and the FCNQ, it maintains equality
among the co-ops and enables them to help
each other out.
