She sighed , “ You are not the only black . There is another black . A girl . She is in homeroom 113 , the one on the left of ours . You are free to go now . I ’ m glad we had this little talk .” She looked at him for a few more minutes before standing up . He got up , too .
As he was walking towards the girl ’ s homeroom , Tanner and Gordon came up . “ Wazzup , Licorice Face ?? Feeling a little dark today , eh ?” Tanner teased .
Gordon looked at him and punched him . Not very hard , but it hurt anyway .
“ This is the everyday life of being black in Crystal Jr !” They said . Then they walked away , laughing their heads off .
The black girl heard the commotion , so she came out to see . When she saw it was a black boy , she smiled and helped him up . “ Hi ,” she said , “ I ’ m Kansas . What ’ s your name ?”
