How did this all begin? How did you get into starting with your own photography and how did that lead to you maintaining a gallery and supporting many artists?

She might have taken a long breathe in when she responded with, “I think I am one of those creative people who doesn't have a creative outlet outside of SL. When I first came here in 2009 and saw what people created I was inspired and blown away. Since I am not very technically inclined myself and had no idea how to make things, I found a way to promote the work of others. It turned out, I got a lot of pleasure out of doing that and so it began. The first gallery I had, Nordan Art, was initially housed in a little side-wing of a castle that I had as a home (yes, there was a time when we all liked castles). Then when I really got into it, a new gallery build, custom made by Igor Ballyhoo, ended up on my sim Nordan om Jorden with space for several exhibits both inside and on the ground. I left SL for a while, returned and then put my current gallery together, Berg by Nordan Art.

My current gallery has become just like the old Nordan Art gallery was and there are many parts to it. The gallery, Flickr, the blog, machinima, the paper crown events, and my own photography all overlap and are connected. So it really started with the gallery and then much later came the photography! I learned about photography from people who showed their work in the gallery, from all kinds of artist friends and by trial and error on my own. And like with so many other things in life, it has been a give and take. It is not really about me supporting the artists. With their talents and visions, they taught me so much and also supported and inspired me.”

With those inspiring words we moved to her gallery housed in Berg by Nordan Art and sat on a couch by the L’annexe where her own work is exhibited. And then the actual interview began as I asked her few more questions.

Jason: “So, this is your permanent collection – do these pictures mean a little more to you than your other ones? How did you choose these to put in here?”

Kate: “Well, when I have a pic on Flickr that I really like for some reason I put it here. Its constantly rotating and never the same.”
