Shirandula has stood the test of time and perfected the art of situational comedy. Every Thursday evening if Citizen is your choice, you have something to laugh about. ‘Papa Shirandula is a watchman but hides it from his family who knows him as an IT manager! He is married to Wilbroda who keeps bragging to people that her husband is a manager and have a daughter called Naliaka. Awinja who has hit the screen with her luhya accent makes Papa Shirandula more humorous. She acts as Papas’ house help. But just when you thought it can’t get any better, there is also Inspector Mwala, a short policeman who is always on the run to maintain the rule of law and at the same time trying to deal with his unruly juniors and a strict boss. He is a very hard working boss and always gets through where other cops fail to get in terms of dealing with crime as he is well connected. He dedicates all his little (sic) energy to his work. Soap Operas have also recently made a debut on the silver screen. Kalasha award winning Lies that Bind on KTN is a delight with the family that lies together, staying together as the going theme. Many are kept glued to this well produced and directed soap. They are rivaled hotly by Mali showing on NTV and in which top actress Mkamzee Mwatela is oozing glam that can only match international soap operas. Youthful viewers are perhaps the happiest lot in the recent past. First came Tahidi High and even though it has kept many on toes with teen life and intrigues, many are missing the older cast members who had to move on after graduation. As if on cue, KTN unveiled a dating show Tujuane and it has become all the craze in town. If you are young single and ready to mingle, we could watch to get a mate or simply apply and be on the show. With the minimum programming threshold moved to 6o percent, the next quarter promises even more mind blowing shows. Already the recently launched K24 is turning heads with Sirikal ya Bibi, Mrs and Maisha. I guess our fixation with the television just climbed a notch higher!
