BODYANDSOUL This is a tale of two beauties, Janet Kirina and Nice Githinji and how they have sailed the sea of acting to emerge tops .The two leading divas bare all on how they have nurtured their confidence to remain the best of the best. UNLOCK YOUR POTENTIAL I BY KEVIN KOECH t would be a sin for any staunch follower of Kenyan programming to be unfarmiliar with these two fashionable actresses. The duo both 26 years of age, incidentally, are taking the entertainment industry by storm. In her acting career, she has been spotted in the movies “All girls together” and “Benta” which won her the coveted “Best Actress” in a film at the 2009 Kalasha Film and Television Awards. The series Block D and Makutano Junction are some of the programes she has featured in but she is famously known for her character in Higher Learning. It does not stop there, Janet has also been a presenter in the kids show Know Zone and that is no coincidence as her passion, love and care for kids is something that cannot go by unmentioned. She is also currently working as a producer trying to actualize the movie My life in Crime a depiction of John Kiriamiti’s life. Nice Githinji on the other hand is probably one of Kenya’s most self driven artistes, striving to make the industry bigger and brighter. Nice is a force to be reckoned with,a voice that can not be stopped,an expert actress and a consummate professional. Nice began her career as a stage actress, first appearing on the Phoenix Players stage in Richard Stockwell’s Bad Blood. Following a stellar performance in that show, Nice has evolved into one of the industry’s most active voices and has carved herself a niche as a performer who leaves her audiences wanting more. From that starting point, Nice has been active on the Kenyan scene as a professional actress, producer, karaoke hostess, vocalist and event organizer. For the last eight years she has appeared in five television shows, numerous stage productions and six feature length films. The list of credits includes Benta, Guy Centre, William Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor, Formula X, Changing Times, Makutano Junction, Saints, Malaika (which was an original Kenyan musical in 2005), and All Girls Together just to name a few. All the television shows, stage productions and films Nice appears on have aired internationally and have won numerous awards and rave reviews from critics. Nice’s performance earned her a Best Actress nomination at the 2008 Kalasha Awards… How have they managed to be the best of the best? For Janet, her driving force is ‘Do’. ‘Do’. ‘Do’. ‘If it’s something you are really passionate about, Do. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. You just keep on doing’, she says. They both are in unison that hardwork and determination has kept them on the entertainment radar and that it is the only way to success. But then again, being a little controversial like kissing a girl easily catapults one to fame according to Nice. 30 Chronicle | July 2013
