• Dave Hulcher – Dave was hired as the executive director of the association on July 1 , 2016 . He graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor ’ s degree in Finance . During his time in college , he participated in a coop intern program in financial management through the U . S . Department of Defense . After graduation , he started his career in insurance working as a sales executive in the commercial lines for CIMA Companies , Inc . While there , he received his property and casualty license and participated in a rigorous training program . He spent 17 years at the Big “ I ,” working in its for-profit subsidiary , the Big “ I ” Advantage Team . He served as director of the Errors & Omissions Operations , and most as assistant vice president of Agency Professional Liability Risk Management / BIA Risk manager . Dave played a crucial role in developing several industry-leading Error & Omission seminars and risk management tools , including the Big “ I ” Risk Management website , and the Big “ I ” Virtual Risk Consultant . For him , the new job was an opportunity to bring KAIA members together . One of his favorite quotes was from Benjamin Franklin : “ We must , indeed , all hang together or , most assuredly , we shall all hang separately .”
• Glenn Hussey – Glenn was president of the association in 1938 . He served as national councilor in 1939 . He was one of the founders of the Topeka Insurors formed in the early 1920s . Glenn first joined the insurance business with his father , who had an agency in Lyndon . In 1927 , he and his brother opened the Hussey Insurance Agency in Topeka . In 1962 , the Topeka Insurors honored Glenn for his “ years of meritorious service both as a pillar of strength and as a respected citizen and leader in Topeka ’ s community life .” Glenn later sold his agency and moved to Kansas City and formed the Trinity Universal Insurance Company of Kansas , Inc .
• Laurin W . Jones – Laurin was president of the association for two terms , 1940 and 1941 . He served as national councilor in 1942 . He was from Dodge City . The Laurin W . Jones Agency was established in 1932 . He was on the board of the Dodge City Loins Club and president of the Board of Education in Dodge City . In 1942 , Laurin served on the Civil Defense Program as a school board coordinator and air raid warden . In 1964 , he was named Kansas of the Year by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas .
• J . C . Kelley – Was a member of the first executive committee of the association formed in January 1921 . J . C . was from Wichita
• John V . Kelly – John served on the Executive Committee in 1926 . He was president of the association in 1935 . In 1937 , he served as national councilor . John was from Leavenworth and had been a local agent since 1895 . The firm was established by his father , W . D . Kelly in 1860 . A third generation , Eugene D ., John ’ s son , entered the business in 1929 . The name of the firm was the Kelly Agency .
• Alpha H . Kenna , Dr . – Was the first paid employee of the association . He was hired on November 1 , 1946 as the executive secretary / manager . He retired on October 31 , 1952 . Dr . Kenna was a Chaplain in both World War I and II . He attained the rank of Lt . Colonel during this time . He served in Europe during both wars . He retired from the military in July of 1946 . Alpha was noted for his increase in membership , the extraordinary fine financial reports , and the unusual success in the education program and the fine cooperation between company representatives and the association . Alpha was awarded an Honorary Life Membership with association upon his retirement .
• Robert ( Bob ) E . Kerr – Bob was president of the association in 1995 . He was vice president of Charlton- Manley Insurance in Lawrence . He graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1961 . He started his career in the insurance industry in 1968 by joining his father in-law ’ s agency , Chaney Associates , which later became Charlton-Manley , Inc . He was instrumental in getting the PIA to consolidate with IIAK in 1992 . His goal for his presidency was to get more communication going between member agents and the association . He was very active in the Lawrence community in the Optimist Club , Jaycees , Lawrence Chamber of Commerce , and the First Christian Church .
