Kenneth Ross Kansas ’ First National President of NAIA
Kenneth Ross was president of the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents in 1950 . Ken started in the insurance business in 1938 and opened his own agency in 1942 in Arkansas City , Kenneth Ross & Company . He was inducted into the Army in 1944 . His wife , Gail , continued to run the office while he served . He served Kansas as the state national director for four years . In 1951 , he was elected to the National Executive Committee and served until 1955 , when he was elected president of the National Association of Insurance Agents . He was the first Kansan to achieve this position . In 1969 his agency merged with the United Agency , and his son Steve became a partner . Steve later became president of the Kansas Association in 1991 . Kenneth died on August 5 , 1982 .
Use of the Big “ I ” logo was prohibited to non-members in 1958 .
• The Federal Flood Insurance Act was put into place on August 7 , 1956 .
• In 1957 , Bob Russell was hired to do the lobbying for the Legislation Session . The two main insurance bills to be introduced were the Agent Education Bill and the Safety Responsibility Law . After 19 years of effort , the association successfully got a new Kansas Safety Responsibility Law passed , to be effective January 1 , 1958 .
• January 2 , 1958 , papers were completed that incorporated the association as a not-for-profit corporation . The new legal name of the association was the Kansas Association of Independent Insurance Agents , Inc .
