Executive Committee formed in January 1921 . He was president of the association in 1923 . He also served on the Executive Committee in 1925 . Will was from Hutchinson , Will S . Thompson Agency , founded in 1896 . He was honored in 1946 by the Hutchinson Insurance Men for his 50th anniversary of the founding of his agency . It later became the Will S . Thompson-Kline Agency .
• Dorothy Taylor – Dorothy was the executive director of PIAK from 1983 to 1992 . At the consolidation of the IIAK and PIAK in 1992 , Dorothy became vice president of member services . She was responsible for membership , meetings , and communications . With the consolidation , she brought the CIC educational programs to the association . In 1985 , she was part of the creation of the CISR program . In January 2006 , Dorothy was presented with the KAIA Distinguished Service Award . Dorothy retired on March 31 , 2006 , with 23 years of service . Dorothy died May 5 , 2020 .
• Harry O . Tinklepaugh – Harry was on the KAIA Executive Committee in 1927 . He was president of the association in 1937 . He was from Kansas City , Kansas . He was a partner of the Tinklepaugh & Lind Agency . Harry had been in the insurance business since 1918 . Harry attended the 1966 convention in Wichita . At that time , he had participated in 42 of 43 state conventions .
• Ron Todd – Ron was elected in 1990 as insurance commissioner . He served as commissioner until 1995 . Before that , he served as the assistant state insurance commissioner for 20 years . Ron graduated from the University of Kansas . He began his career at the Kansas Insurance Department in 1956 . His accomplishments while he was in office included : lowering the auto insurance rates in Kansas to the sixth-lowest in the nation ; developed and oversaw the passage of a Workers ’ Compensation Reform Law ; decreased workers ’ compensation rates ; and , assisted in Kansans recovering $ 16.2 million in claims payments that insurance companies disputed . Ron died on October 29 , 1998 , at the age of 66 .
• Paul D . Tompkins – Paul was president of the association in 1964 . He was from Topeka and was a partner with Sargent-Wanamaker Agency . Paul was the state national director in 1965 through 1967 . During World War II , he entered the Air Force and served for two years . Paul attended Washburn University . In 1950 he entered the insurance business as a crop-hail agent . In the August 1964 edition of the Premium Magazine he was ranked as one of the finest presidents to hold this position due to the interest and concern he showed . Paul stated at the convention in October 1964 : “ I assure you I will always work for the good of our association in any capacity you may choose to use me .” Paul was named Insurance Man of the Year in 1964 . He also received the Outstanding Agent of the Year Award in 1967 . After retiring in 1988 , he worked for KAIA as the membership services director . Paul was awarded a Special Distinguished Service Award for his help during the aftermath of the Greensburg tornado in 2007 . He retired from KAIA in 2008 . Paul died on August 12 , 2013 .
• Carole Merkel Tozier – Carole was hired as vice president of education and administration August 17 , 1981 . Carole received the Insurance Woman of the Year Award in 1985 . She resigned in 1990 after nine years with the association . In Carole ’ s farewell article in the November / December issue of the magazine she stated : “ I would like to leave you with one thought . Become active in the efforts of your Big “ I ”, participate in their activities , especially the education programs , and take advantage of the services offered . You can make a difference and you will also find the dividends from your membership far outweigh your dues ”.
• Timothy Tyner – Tim was president of the association in 2013 . Tim was president of Tyner Insurance Group , Inc . in Council Grove and worked with two sons . Tim stated in his October acceptance speech : “ Leadership is all about saying “ Yes ” and committing to the cause . I encourage each person to get involved and say “ Yes ” to making KAIA an even better organization than it already is ”. He later said : “ It has been an incredible experience to be part of our industry ’ s future . I look forward to joining the ranks of past presidents who have gone before me and celebrating all of the association ’ s next successes ”.
