" There is no place like home " Give Back to the community you love!
1. Host a Yard sale for charity One mans trash is another mans treasure. Set up a yard sale with items you have grown out of and no longer need. Better yet, invite your neighbours to join in by finding some items that they would like to get rid of as well. Donate the proceeds to a local charity in need, it feels great to do something with the community, for the community.
3. Take care of your sidewalks Keeping your sidewalk shovelled and salted in the winter is a necessary responsibility for home owners. This allows others to use the walks safely! Going out to shovel? Why not do your neighbours or family members a favour and brush the snow off of their vehicles for them too!
2. Volunteer at Local Schools Educators and their institutions are over worked, stressed, and in need of community support. Unfortunately, while most people know that there is a need for student and parent involvement to ensure that kids are supported with as many opportunities as possible, too many community members believe that it is someone else’ s responsibility to provide the needed support. Find out how your local schools could use your support with things like fundraising, PAC meetings, score keepers, lunch supervisors, after school recreational actives.
4. Park and Path clean up Many local parks and paths don’ t necessarily have city staff attention for safety and cleanliness on a regular basis. Paths in particular, often become covered in litter due to funnelling wind and being a private place that people can often feel safe littering in. Help keep your community clean and safe by doing some garbage clean up when you can, it’ s not only great from a visual and safety perspective, but for the environment too!
5. Help your Neighbours with shovelling, raking, watering the lawn... With the hectic lifestyle of today, it is often difficult for people to balance their schedules. Do a kind and
meaningful gesture of helping out the neighbours, especially if they are elderly or have a hard time completing yard tasks.
6. Help your Community Centre They see hundred, if not thousands of people everyday for various reasons. They are often scrambling to keep up with the flood of people, especially in seasons that drag in a lot of dirt and debris. Contact your local community centre to find out how you can help.
