Couple that with online shopping, where specialist tools can be ordered from anywhere in the world and delivered within days, and it ' s easy to see why innovation now moves faster than ever before. Perhaps the most interesting change, however, is what this means for the future of creativity.
During COVID, many people rediscovered the joy of making things with their hands. Painting, drawing, sewing, baking and crafting became valuable outlets for mindfulness, creativity and connection. We ' re now seeing a generation of makers who move comfortably between different creative pursuits, borrowing ideas and techniques wherever inspiration strikes.
Cake decorating sits beautifully within this movement. Unlike many art forms, it offers all the satisfaction of creating something beautiful without adding another permanent object to an already crowded home. We create it, share it, celebrate with it and then enjoy eating it together.
In many ways, cake decorating may be one of the most social art forms of all. As creative boundaries continue to blur, perhaps the question is no longer whether crafters become cake decorators.
Perhaps it ' s whether creative people simply choose different mediums through which to express themselves.
And right now, cake is proving to be one of the most delicious.
