Sunshine Services

We ’ re compiling list of volunteers for our directory

VEDDER
Boy , oh boy . April was filled with everything from soup to nuts , as they used to say — heavy rainfall , blinding sunshine , snow in the mountains and Northern Lights . That just about covers anything possible ?
I ’ m in the process of compiling our list of volunteers in your upcoming directory , listed as “ Sunshine Service .” I ’ m incredibly proud of this group of dedicated
ladies who give so much of their time and energy to assist
our local citizens in need of medical equipment .
If you ’ ve never seen our “ stash ,”
let me know ? Surgeries and illness demand specific items that you might not need once healed ; it ’ s so much easier to just borrow rather than purchase . We ask that you return things within approximately two months ; beyond that , it ’ s suggested that you purchase your own for long-term use .
We appreciate financial donations but have to limit what type of things you might want to pass along , especially commodes and shower benches . We have limited space for storage and currently have a good number of those items . I will tell you that they are almost impossible to give away ! Believe me , I ’ ve tried . Nursing homes , senior centers , Goodwill , etc . etc . These businesses all say they need to be “ sterilized ” but a bucket of bleach water would count in my opinion . Anyway , keep that in mind .
I ’ m hoping we are well on our way to summer , finally , and can once again enjoy our gardens . I love my plants and they reward me year after year , with color and joy !

The Niners

By CATHY LOFFINK

We reminisce on childhood during scramble

The Niners ’ first scramble for 2024 was truly an innovative one . The theme was “ When I grow up , I want to be a Niner ” and indeed it followed that concept with things that made us
LOFFINK remember what it was like to be a kid again ! Playing a hole using PeeWee clubs , provided to us by the First Tee in Gladstone , was the first challenge reminding us of how tiny we were at 5 or 6 years old . At lunch we played a game where you had to match childhood pictures to the adult Niner . It was such a joy to see the sweet and playful personalities of our youth .
The Niners are proud supporters of the Wilsonville High School Girls Golf Team and want to congratulate them on a successful 2024 season . For the third year in a
row , the Wildcats are conference champions . As for the players , Layla was player of the year again and Evie and Madeline finished second and third in league respectively . In addition , Charbonneau Golf Club ’ s General Manager and Golf Professional Chris Bensel was awarded coach of the year for the third year in a row .
As in earlier issues , highlighting new members is important . This month I would like to introduce Kristina Brown . Before coming to Charbonneau , Kristina lived along the Columbia River on Hayden Island . When she decided to move her family ’ s remodeling business , Chrystal Remodeling , to Wilsonville , moving to Charbonneau , which had always been on her radar , became a reality . It helped that her kids and grandkids live in the vicinity . She continues to work part-time for the business along with her husband . An interesting fact is that for a while they lived on a private airport in Estacada . That seems like an everyday place to live , right ? Maybe so when your husband is a pilot . She was encouraged to become a Niner by her neighbors , and we are awfully glad she listened to them .
Our next event , a scramble with a Halloween theme , will take place on May 11 . Who knows what will be in store for the Niners . For me , my golf game is scary enough !
