We welcome our new superintendent

We are pleased to welcome Andrew Connor as the new superintendent of the Charbonneau Golf Club and Charbonneau

Water Company , reporting to Chris Bensel , general manager and head PGA pro , and replacing Matt Collier . Andrew began his new job with us April 29 .

Andrew comes to CGC from Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby , where he was the assistant superintendent and served for the last six months as the interim superintendent . Andrew has a degree in Turf Management and Horticulture from Brunswick Community College in North Carolina and has worked in various greens-keeping positions at six golf courses . In addition , Andrew has some experience as a groundskeeper for professional baseball teams , having worked for a minor league team in North Carolina and the Colorado Rockies . Seems like this guy knows grass . In a letter to members of Willamette Valley Country Club , the club wrote the following about Andrew :

“ Andrew has been a valuable member of our team and did an amazing job as the Interim Superintendent for the past 6 months . We know he is more than prepared for this new position and wish him great success moving forward . We are so proud of Andrew for this exciting advancement in his career .”

We look forward to Andrew continuing to make his mark on the Charbonneau golf course where so much course improvement has occurred in the last five years under Matt Collier ’ s leadership . As a public golf course , limited to par 3s and par 4s , we know that we will not achieve the same status as high-end private golf courses . It is , however , our goal to provide the best golf value in the

greater Portland market . With well over 60,000 paid rounds of golf , we are already well-positioned for that title .

I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Matt Collier for the great work and leadership he provided to the Charbonneau Golf Club . While course superintendent , our greens became as good as any course in the metro area . Significant improvements have been made to the fairways and turf . A major drainage project was completed on the Yellow course and Matt was highly involved in a major drainage and bunker rebuild program that will commence on Andrew ’ s first week with us . During Matt ’ s time at CGC , we made some significant upgrades in golf course equipment , which Matt always bought with great savings . Matt has taken on a new job as course superintendent for our neighbor golf course , Langdon Farms . Langdon Farms has more tournament events than any other golf course in Oregon . Matt has to prepare the course for 160 shotgun start tournaments in 2024 . We know he will be up to the

challenge and Langdon Farms has found itself a great superintendent .

A change to our board

With the merger between the Charbonneau Golf Club and the Charbonneau Country Club ( Master HOA for Charbonneau ) in 2020 , our independent CGC board of directors includes a member of the CCC board who serves in a guidance and liaison capacity , with no voting rights , on the CGC board . Since that merger , we were fortunate enough for that individual to be Jim Gibbons . Jim is a highly involved resident in the Charbonneau community and a passionate golfer with great golf expertise , having served as the director of the Oregon Golf Association for many years . Jim will be leaving his position on the CCC board and our board as he has reached his term limit in May . We could not have had a better representative from the CCC board than Jim as we adjusted to the merger . He provided great counsel and support for our board and the CGC operation , as well as , a finely-tuned sense of humor . Our two boards have a great relationship , which benefits all parties . Jim Gibbons has been a big contributor to that relationship . Many thanks , Jim .
