Law Related Education Committee Hosts Mock Trial Competition
In March , more than 50 Palm Beach County attorneys and judges volunteered to serve as Presiding and Scoring Judges during the 15th Circuit high school mock trial competition . The eight schools that put forward teams were Palm Beach Lakes Community High School , FAU High School , Wellington High School , The King ’ s Academy , Donna Klein Jewish Academy , American Heritage School , Spanish River High School , and The Benjamin School .
The teams , composed of students portraying three attorneys and three witnesses , competed as both the Plaintiff and Defense using a fact pattern , developed by Florida Southern College , surrounding a civil claim involving land-use issues . It was the first , but not the last , mock trial competition for several of the schools , and for almost all the students this was their first in- person competition in over two years .
American Heritage prevailed in the 15th Circuit competition and then went on to win the state competition in April to represent Florida at the National High School Mock Trial Championship .
The Law Related Education Committee is proud to announce that American Heritage School ( in Delray Beach ) finished 12th out of over 45 schools that were involved in the national competition . This year ’ s competition was held virtually , and American Heritage won 3 out of the 4 rounds in which that they were involved .
