PDA PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD

DR . BERNADETTE A . LOGAN
( Dr . Grossman presented the PDA Public Service Award to Dr . Logan .)
The real reason I stayed though surrounds the idea of family . My immediate family – my parents and older sisters – fully supported me in pursuing my passion for education , and ultimately the family I was welcomed into at Penn Oral Medicine , with some of my mentors who you may know – Dr . Thomas Sollecito and Dr . Eric Stoopler – encouraged me in my passion for oral medicine and education . From there , my family grew to my organized dentistry family , from ASDA to transitioning into practice being involved at all levels of the tripartite .
I would be remiss not to mention how grateful I am to the fellow leaders I serve with at Philadelphia County Dental Society , our Executive Assistant Lisa Gottlieb , who I would not be standing up here today without ; all of the leaders within Pennsylvania Dental Association that I have worked with , so many of you in the audience who have mentored , guided and supported me to travel all across the country , not only educating the next generation of dentists but also to you all . Thank you to the PDA Annual Awards Committee as well for this honor , and I promise to carry it with me throughout my profession . Hopefully my free spirit will continue to make people smile and educate the next generation – thank you so much !
Our 2024 Public Service Award winner has done so much to improve the oral health of children and truly enhance access to care for so many people in the communities of southeastern Pennsylvania .
Dr . Bernadette Logan has been and continues to be an exemplary leader and has brought great pride to her colleagues in the Second District who nominated her for this honor .
Dr . Logan has worked tirelessly with the Give Kids A Smile ( GKAS ) program locally and nationally , serving on the national Give Kids A Smile Advisory Board for five years while she was a member of the ADA ’ s Council on Access , Prevention and Interprofessional Relations ( CAPIR ).
Locally , Bernie has spent 20 years helping to plan and execute a series of annual GKAS clinics in Chester and Delaware counties , something she has done since back in 2003 as co-chair of the GKAS Program for the Dental Society of Chester County and Delaware County .
Her statewide service has included her valuable work on PDA ’ s Access to Oral Health Advisory Group , where she is a former chair . Bernie has also chaired the Second District Dental Care Committee . She has served in practically every leadership role for the Dental Society of Chester and Delaware County , including president , corresponding secretary , Bulletin editor and membership chair .
PDA is excited to recognize Dr . Logan and honor her efforts to provide dental care for the underserved . It is my pleasure to present the PDA Public Service Award to Dr . Bernie Logan . Congratulations !
