‘We found out, that as a 2yo, Duck had been sold as
the top priced stallion at the NCHA Select Cutting
Horse Sale in 2013. He’d been set up for the 2014
NCHA Futurity, but this failed to yield a positive
result. Feeling that his strengths may lie in the
Campdraft or cow-horse arenas, he was offered for
sale at the 2015 Landmark Sale, but was passed in.’
Continuing to work towards those disciplines he
competed well with Joel Duff, on behalf of Dru
O’Keefe, at the Q16 National Show, running off for
the Maiden Draft and finishing second. Duck also
placed in the Working Cowhorse at the same show.
In October, 2016, SKG Performance Horses
purchased This Ducks Smart Q-71972, by private
sale, from Grant Quigley and Dru O’Keefe.
The remainder of the 2016/2017 season saw This
Ducks Smart Q-71972 taken along slowly by Scott to
ensure he ended up a confident and solid Campdrafting
horse for the long term. Placing in numerous drafts
along the way, the pair were narrowly beaten in the
Feature Novice Draft at Moss Vale. Stealing the ride
from Scott, Keryn & Duck then won the Feature
Jackpot Cut-out at the Adaminaby Campdraft in the
same season.
In the 2017/2018 season, due to Scott not competing,
Duck’s reins were taken over by Keryn, full time.
