Their next success together came at Tubbul Campdraft taking
home the coveted feature Ladies Draft, and a beautiful Mathew
Murray trophy saddle. This was quickly followed by another
win, when they competed at Moss Vale to win the Feature
Novice Draft and a Hawkesbury River Fender Saddle. With
the 2018/2019 season heavily affected by the ongoing drought,
only three of the normal eleven of the local Campdrafts were
held. With that, Scott, Keryn and Gai made the decision to travel
to the Gippsland area of Victoria to enable them to compete in
more drafts.
‘We had such a great time with Duck finaling, and then winning
or placing in every one of the 8 Campdrafts we attended
for the season, including at the Gippsland Campdrafting
Championships at Yanakie. Duck gained enough points to also
be awarded the 2018/2019 AQHA High Point Novice Campdraft
Horse of Australia.’
Sadly, due to the drought, the inability to access the Gippsland
Campdrafts due to fire, and then Covid, saw the 2019/2020
season and competition wither away to non-existence in the
early part of 2020.
‘We attended only the one draft at Adaminaby, where Duck was
exceptional, having six runs in a row for an average of 88.8
points, narrowly finishing second in both the Ladies and Novice
Drafts.’
Looking to the future, Scott, Keryn and Gai are excited to be
breeding This Ducks Smart to some of their CK Peppioco
mares, as they become old enough. They’re also excited to be
breaking and starting the first 2yo’s by This Ducks Smart, and to
be offering his first progeny for sale at the 2021 Nutrien Classic
Sale. As a note of interest it excited them to see This Ducks
Smart’s full sister, Wicked Duck Q-74896 as the top-priced
mare at the 2020 Nutrien Classic Sale.
‘We’re still in drought and looking down the barrel of another
non-existent local campdraft season, but we are hopeful we can
take This Ducks Smart Q-71972 to the Warwick, Willinga and
Nutrien drafts, if restrictions are eased by then.
