Patients will also experience exciting improvements to Finley’s newly relocated heart and vascular center upon opening of the Grandview project. Located on the third floor of the facility, the new center will offer a cardiac catheterization lab suite fully equipped with a large multipurpose procedure room. Gym space and an education room will also be available in the car- diac pulmonary rehab area, as well as eight exam rooms and three physician offices in the cardiac clinic. These expanded services will keep patients close to home, while allowing Finley to stay innovative in the fight against cardiovascular diseases. Finley’s surgery department will also experience impressive developments upon completion of the Grandview Expansion Project. Designed with a newly efficient work flow layout on the second floor of the expansion, Finley’s surgery center will contain eight enlarged operating room suites and three specialty surgical rooms. Twenty pre- and post-surgical rooms, as well as an enlarged family waiting area and post-anesthesia care unit, will enable procedures to be scheduled more timely and at a convenience for patients. Whether it’s a small cold, flu symptoms, or a broken bone – when health issues arise, it’s never at a convenient time. With families constantly on the go or travelling to and from work, it can be difficult to find time that fits into your schedule and your doctor’s schedule. Oftentimes, patients have little choice but to visit their local emergency department to treat an illness or injury that, although not life-threatening, cannot wait for their primary care pro- vider’s scheduled hours to receive treatment. This option often leads to a costly and unnecessary emergency department visit. One health care option that provides prompt health care needs for patients of all ages in an efficient and quality manner comes in the form of urgent care services. Urgent Care Clinics – A New Model of Health Care for Dubuque Another advancement in health care for the Tri-State area is the development of urgent care clinics to provide care for patients outside of the hospital setting and welcome unscheduled walk-in visits. These clinics, which will be available on days, nights, weekends, and holidays throughout the year, provide care for patients experiencing illnesses or injuries that cannot wait until the regularly scheduled hours of a primary care provider. The “retail health” concept of urgent care facilities allow patients to choose their care when and where they want it. This care model provides convenient access, high quality health care, and decreased costs – thus fulfilling the triple aim of health care. Urgent care clinics do not replace the role of an emergency department, or of one’s primary care provider. Instead, these clinics act as a channel between traditional primary care services and an emergency department setting. Similar to an emergency department, urgent care clinics encounter the forefront of medical events with health care staff equipped to respond, evaluate, and care for each patient who walks in regardless of what one’s injury or illness may be. Upon arrival to an urgent care clinic, health care providers evaluate the type of injury or illness and treat those experiencing serious conditions, or transfer patients directly to an emergency department when conveying life-threatening conditions. Urgent care medical staff maintain close communication with urgent care providers, primary care providers, as well as any area specialists connected to the patient and their condition. Research has shown that the Tri-State area needs improved access to urgent care services. With the addition of UnityPoint Clinic ® urgent cares opening later this year in Dubuque, Finley is able to offer more convenient options for our patients and community. Finley Hospital continues to provide members of our community with access to care through our hospital services, primary care clinics in Peosta and Cascade, UnityPoint at Home services, and now two urgent care locations. The development of this integrated system means more coordinated and convenient care options for our patients and community. Members of our community and tri-state areas are the reason why Finley Hospital maintains a solid standing at the forefront of health care. Finley is here because its mission has always been – and always will be – to consistently do what can be done to improve the health of the people and communities we serve. With our core values in mind along with the dedication we exude when providing the best outcome for every patient, every time, we are excited to provide our community with additional health care options and an improved patient experience. ❖ Editor’s note: Information provided by UnityPoint Finley Hospital.
