The blurred subject and power
Reading the accelerated cities of Rafael Chaparro Madiedo
Summary: The two urban novels written by Colombian author Rafael Chaparro Madiedo, Opio en las nubes( 1992) and El Pájaro Speed y su banda de corazones maleantes( 2012), are characterized by their original prose style. Rhythm, music, synesthesia, fragmentation, and syntactic experimentation are key features of Chaparro’ s style. The dizzying experience of reading these novels is owed to the author’ s work with the speed of narration. In order to read the political content, that is the power relationships between the subjects that appear in the novels, we will make use of the theories of postmodernist French thinker Paul Virilio. We will work especially with his theories on the destabilization of the subject due to the overload of images and experiences and the constant acceleration of modern urban life, as well as the exercise of control over the movement or velocity of others as an expression of power and a possibility for negative affirmation( differentiating oneself from the other) for the disintegrated subject.

Resumo: Os dois romances urbanos do colombiano Rafael Chaparro Madiedo, Opio en las nubes( 1992) e El Pájaro Speed y su banda de corazones maleantes( 2012), são caracterizados por uma prosa inovadora. São romances fortemente marcados pelo ritmo, música, sinestesia, a fragmentação e experimentação no nível sintático. A vertiginosa experiência de leitura se debe ao trabalho com a velocidade da narração realizada pelo escritor. Para realizar uma leitura do conteúdo político, ou seja, as relações de poder entre os indivíduos que aparecem nas novelas, podemos usar as teorias de Paul Virilio, pensador pós-moderno francês. Destaca a desestabilização do sujeito como resultado da sobrecarga de imagens e experiências e a aceleração constante da vida urbana moderna, e ao exercício do controle de movimento ou velocidade do outro como uma expressão de poder e possibilidade de afirmação negativa( diferindo do outro) do sujeito esfumado.
