Meaning of Life: Senior Seminar
Rabbi David Small
JTAwakenings
Senior Year is packed with personal challenges and starting college is a huge change and new beginning.
How do I deal with the pressure and expectations hanging over me? What defines me as a person? What
measures do I use to decide what is good in life? What will college be like? How will I identify? How will I
deal with challenges to my Jewish identity? We will address these and develop a Personal Survival Tool Kit
to help us get through and not just survive but thrive! (Required for Emanuel 12th graders)
The Plastics
Mitzi Young
JTCentral
What happens when people don’t like others? Cattiness and fighting ensues…have you seen Mean Girls?
Whether the people are Jewish or not, Judaism has a lot to say about this kind of behavior, and how we
can work to stop it.
Teen Leadership &
Philanthropy Institute
Imagine yourself on a Foundation Board where you
evaluate programs and allocate money to worthy
causes. How will you decide which ones to fund?
That is the focus of the Jewish Teen Leadership and
Philanthropy Institute. Teens begin learning about
Philanthropy in the classroom, then quickly move to the
field. Over 4 semesters of study, students will: clarify their
values and learn about giving from a Jewish perspective;
hear firsthand accounts from community philanthropists
and community workers; visit community agencies and
learn about their work; solicit and evaluate grant proposals;
allocate $3,000 to community agencies; learn about
foundations and legacy gifts; meet and interview legacy
donors; and, engage in community service projects.
Meets during JTCentral on Mondays
