JTTalks: Ideas Worth Spreading
Eric Golberg What important idea do you have to share with the world? This class believes in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. This class will explore some of the best TED Talk films and evaluate what makes these ideas so innovative. In small groups we will create our own short clips to share our own ideas.( limit 12 students)
Stereotypical Jews in Entertainment
Jason Kay Zoolander, Mad Men, Inglorious Bastards, Seinfeld. There is no shortage of Jewish characters on TV and in the movies. But, do they really portray Jews fairly and accurately? Watch clips of some Jewish characters and you decide. Maybe you can figure out what the prototype for a Jewish character might be!( limit 15 students)
Extreme Makeover: Jewish Edition
Eric Maurer JTConnect is getting a makeover! But before this can happen, our class will brainstorm what it means to create intentional Jewish space that is both sacred and appealing. Bring your smart phones because we will be looking at examples both online and in person. Using our class reflections and your own creative juices, we will create a mural on the wall of the JTConnect office.( limit 12 students)
Cookin ' Through the Torah
Jason Oruch Food is used to nourish the body & soul. Our culture revolves around food; almost every Jewish holiday & most Jewish rituals have a variety of culinary traditions. Each week teens will create food that has a basis in the weekly Torah portion. Learn how to prepare traditional(& some nontraditional) foods as you explore the wide array of ingredients.( limit 10 students)
Tie Dye & Duct Tape Judaism( 8th9th Grade Only)
Mitzi Young How do you express your tradition... with tie dye and duct tape, of course! In this class you will make your own tallit by tie dying the fabric and then tying the tzittzit yourself. Finish up the project by making a duct tape bag that matches. Teens in this course will need to provide 4 rolls of the duct tape of their choice.( limit 15 students)
