by Hannah White With all the dangers of building in Central Asia, CAI’s partners go to extra lengths to ensure schools are built using the latest methods and in the safest locations. This year, CAI Tajikistan is building two schools and three toilets in the remote province of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast. Check out their progress: SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION BEGINS “It is amazing that people are donating to such remote areas. They must have a very big heart. So, thanks for the donors!” Visit the construction site: No hard hat required. Visit the construction site and meet some of the students and teachers who will benefit from your generous support. - Sulaymon Sulaymonov, Construction Foreman at Kindergarten #2 Watch the videos at CentralAsiaInstitute.org/under- construction Udit Primary School & Toilet COMPLETED TOILET Five classrooms and a toilet are being constructed for the children of Udit. CONSTRUCTION IN PROGRESS Construction, estimated to last 6 months, began in May 2018. Supplies for the project are transported to the construction site from Dushanbe, more than 15 hours away. TOILET BEFORE Kindergarten #2 Toilet The rotting wood planks of the old toilet posed a real danger to students. Parents raised concerns that the small children would fall through the floor and injure themselves. CAI Tajikistan helped them build a new, safer toilet. TOILET AFTER Construction foreman Sulaymon Sulaymonov (pictured above) is a father of two, so he understands what this project means to parents in the community. 16 | JOURNEY OF HOPE CENTRAL ASIA INSTITUTE
