Ethan Chong is a young man whose voice, vision and initiative have greatly enriched the SJI community. Gifted with eloquence, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility, he uses his talents to inspire, educate and build community without seeking personal acclaim.
As a member of the Prefectorial Executive Committee, Ethan led innovative programmes, including a tutoring initiative supporting peers. His growth from Peer Support Leader to Peer Support Facilitator shows his role as a patient and encouraging mentor. He leads by example with quiet confidence and dependability.
Ethan’ s communication skills have made him a trusted school representative. He emceed major events like Founders’ Day and earned first runner-up in the 2025 Anglo Chinese Junior College Orators’ Trophy. His words carry sincerity and conviction.
He envisioned the 2025 Literature Festival, connecting students with local authors to enrich intellectual life. He was also runner-up in the New York Times Student Podcast Contest for reflections on heritage and culture.
Academically, Ethan combines analysis and creativity, earning distinction in the Ministry of Education Innovation Programme and presenting research at the International Science Youth Forum.
Ethan’ s leadership, scholarship and service embody the Lasallian spirit, making him a deserving recipient of this award.
Benedict Tong is a student who stands out for his sincerity, kindness and commitment to serving others. Reliable and thoughtful, he is someone both classmates and teachers can count on. Whether reminding peers to stay focused, tidying up without being asked or stepping in to help with extra duties, Benedict consistently shows responsibility and integrity.
Academically, Benedict is hardworking and determined. He enjoys Mathematics and Chemistry, tackling challenges with perseverance and a growth mindset. He also runs peer tutoring sessions in Mathematics, helping classmates understand difficult concepts with clarity and patience, reflecting his belief that learning should be shared.
In the Signum Fidei Programme, Benedict combined creativity with practicality. In Year 3, his group developed a self-cleaning toilet seat prototype to improve hygiene. The following year, he helped design systems to reduce long canteen queues, showing a thoughtful approach to improving student life.
As a committed member of the National Police Cadet Corps, Benedict represented SJI at the 2024 National Police Annual Parade and served as Batch 52 Main Field Instructor. Through VIA projects like Ray of Hope, he extended his service to the wider community. Benedict’ s discipline, humility and compassion make him a true Josephian.
