Chapter 5 CCA & CAS
Debate Society
The Debate Society at St. Joseph’ s Institution provides Josephians with a platform to engage in critical discourse on global issues. At meetings, members debate topics such as governmental systems, political correctness and gender equality, while fostering trust, respect, collaboration and confidence. Under the guidance of their coach, students develop skills in public speaking, time management and structured argumentation, gaining insights into social, political and philosophical questions.
Jedidiah expresses his points with confidence
This year, the Society participated in major tournaments including NUSPA, INFERNUS, DAPD, MIDC, SISDC and SJI’ s inter-varsity competition Illuminate. Highlights include a strong showing at MIDC, with victories on the opening day and the team led by Patrick Nott winning INFERNUS. Additionally, Tricia Chang, Patrick Nott and Jedidiah Eo Shuo became NoVice-Champions at DAPD, with Patrick recognised as Best Speaker.
These achievements showcase not only competitive success but also the Society’ s mission to nurture articulate, thoughtful and compassionate Josephians who lead and serve.
