All hands on deck! Navigating the waters and learning the ropes of teamwork aboard the OBS Hamish II
MOE-OBS 5-Day Challenge Course 2025 This year, our Year 3 Josephians took part in the MOE β Outward Bound Singapore( OBS) 5-Day Challenge Course, held in two batches from 19 to 23 May and 26 to 30 May 2025. The programme once again brought together students from different schools, creating a diverse learning environment where teamwork and resilience thrived.
Organised into watches of about fourteen participants, each group was guided by an OBS instructor through a series of land and sea-based challenges. Students tested their endurance on hikes across rugged terrain, braved kayaking expeditions and spent nights under canvas, learning to rely on each other while adapting to the unpredictability of the outdoors.
What stood out most was the opportunity to connect with peers beyond SJI. Shared challenges became common ground, allowing students to forge friendships while building confidence, adaptability and perseverance. Many reflected that stepping out of their comfort zones taught them not only survival skills but also empathy and openness towards others.
The OBS experience was ultimately about growth; physical, mental and social. Students returned with stronger bonds, renewed resilience and a deeper appreciation for community and diversity.
