The Pelandok Scout Unit had an eventful and productive year in 2024 , filled with activities that reflected the Scout movement ’ s spirit of youth leadership supported by adults . From the outset , SJI Scouts were actively involved in a wide range of events , including organising the Year 1 UG Orientation Day , participating in camps such as Tenderfoot for new Scouts , Skills Training for Year 3s , and the Annual Unit Training Camp . They also took part in competitions organised by Scout HQ South Area , such as the Orienteering and Cooking competitions , and contributed to Values in Action ( VIA ) projects , including engaging with the residents of NTUC Health Nursing Home at Jurong Spring .
This year , Scouts were encouraged to explore various proficiency badges , including Swimmer , Sportsman , and Small Holder . Patrols worked together to set badge targets , with many Scouts showing interest in badges related to Air Scouting .
The year culminated in 20 Year 4 Scouts receiving the prestigious Chief Commissioner ’ s Award , the highest badge in the Scout Badge Progress scheme . Presented in September by the Singapore Scout Association , this achievement is sure to inspire younger Scouts to strive for excellence in their Scouting journey .

Scouts continued their regular volunteering efforts with NTUC Health Nursing Home , an initiative launched in 2023 . During each session , Scouts from different patrols visited the home to interact with residents through conversations and games . This year , Scouts also began volunteering at Willing Hearts , a soup kitchen charity , assisting with food preparation and organising storerooms . Additionally , around 20 Scouts took part in the OneMillion Tree planting project at Spooner Road , organised by HQ Scout South Area and the National Parks Board . These activities provided valuable lessons in caring for nature and fostering empathy towards the elderly and underprivileged in the community .

Outdoor activities remain a key focus for the unit . Scouts engaged in traditional Scouting skills such as pioneering ( building towers and bridges using bakau poles and lashings ), outdoor cooking and hiking . The Scouts also conducted an orienteering activity at the Singapore Botanic Gardens .
