Some of our Josephians had the unique opportunity to engage Ambassador Selverajah in a small group discussion . Ambassador shared more about how they could prepare for a career in the foreign service

Ambassador A . Selverajah engaged Year 5 Josephians in a dialogue focused on the challenges facing the rulesbased international order . He discussed Singapore ’ s foreign policy principles , emphasising the country ’ s commitment to upholding international laws . Despite Singapore ’ s small size , he highlighted how adherence to the rule of law enhances the nation ’ s credibility and relevance in global affairs . Ambassador Selverajah also shared his personal experiences from his extensive career , demonstrating how these principles have guided Singapore through evolving regional and international dynamics .
The session was moderated by members of the Society of International and Current Affairs ( SICA ), who found the dialogue enlightening , particularly regarding Singapore ’ s ability to navigate global challenges and maintain a strong international presence . Ambassador Selverajah ’ s emphasis on Singapore ’ s diplomatic efforts reinforced the importance of strategic engagement , even for smaller nations , in contributing to global governance .
A group of students with aspirations in the foreign service had the opportunity to engage with the Ambassador in a discussion . This follow-up allowed students to delve deeper into the realities of a diplomatic career .
In April , Year 6 students had the valuable opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Mr Zaqy Mohamad , Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Manpower . The session included both small group discussions and a moderated engagement , providing students with a comprehensive understanding of key issues affecting Singapore . Topics ranged from geopolitical challenges and the impact of misinformation on social harmony to the migrant worker community in Singapore and the role of youth in addressing societal issues constructively .
Mr Zaqy shared insights on how Singapore navigates global uncertainties and stressed the importance of fostering a harmonious society . He also highlighted how Singapore ’ s youth can actively engage with and contribute to national and global issues . His candid responses and personal experiences enriched
the dialogue , offering students a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding these topics .
The moderated discussion , led by members of the Society of International and Current Affairs ( SICA ), allowed students to explore these issues in greater depth . The dialogue provided nuanced perspectives on familiar topics , encouraging critical thinking and a broader appreciation of the global context in which Singapore operates .
The engagement concluded with Principal Mr Justin Arul Pierre expressing gratitude to Mr Zaqy for his time and insights . He emphasised that such platforms are crucial for enhancing students ’ understanding of both local and global developments that influence Singapore , helping to shape them into informed future leaders .
