SJI organised the inaugural Values-in-Action ( VIA ) Scubilion Fair in April for the benefit of the school community to learn how they could contribute meaningfully to the community . In total , 12 Partner Organisations were invited to engage and interact with all students and staff .
At SJI , we refer to all service projects as VIA Scubilion , named after Br Jean-Bernard Rousseau , who was a French Catholic member of the De La Salle Brothers who received the name of Scubilion when he entered the novitiate .
The Partner Organisations for the VIA Scubilion Fair this year included , Caritas Singapore , Foreword Coffee Roasters , Heartware Network , ItsRainingRaincoats , Josephian Family Services , Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital , Lakeside Family Services , Mercy Relief Singapore , Ray of Hope , Singapore Chapter of the Harley Owners Group , Singapore Disability Sports Council and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals .
These organisations partnered with SJI to meet the following objectives for our school community to :
• Deepen awareness of social issues and understand existing efforts in the community .
• Discover and explore opportunities to contribute .
• Inspire and align individuals ’ and groups ’ interests with opportunities to serve .

The Special Programme Exhibition was an inaugural event where students from Year 2 , 3 , and 4IP displayed creative projects developed under the Curriculum +, Signum Fidei , and Innomakers programmes . These programmes aim to foster inventive thinking , collaboration , and self-directed learning , with a focus on addressing real-world problems .
Innomakers Programme highlighted four student groups . One notable project was The Hive 5 , a two-year National Design Project by five Year 3 students who designed social spaces for the elderly in Toa Payoh . Another standout project was Eco-Vermitech , created by a group of Year 2 students , focusing on reducing food waste in SJI . Other projects featured were the Year 1 DRV Challenge and Year 2 Architecture Projects ( see page 105 ).
The VIA Scubilion Fair also impressed upon all that being of service to the community should be a way of life for Josephians . This ethos is deeply integral to the SJI Education .

Curriculum + extends beyond the national O-Level Examination to emphasise cognitive development through the Levels of Learning framework . For Year 3 students , it includes two key components : Project Work and electives in Entrepreneurship and Programming . The Python exhibition , for example , displayed students ’ skills in building and programming a controllable cardboard car . Some of the entrepreneurship projects showed potential for becoming real businesses , encouraging students to consider scaling their ideas into marketable products ( see page 125 ).
The Signum Fidei exhibition highlighted several innovative projects from Year 3IP students , such as a car key integrated with a breathalyser to prevent drunk driving and a lock based on Rubik ’ s cube patterns . These projects demonstrated the students ’ ability to think creatively and apply design thinking to real-world challenges . The focus was not only on innovation but also on creating solutions with practical applications ( see page 121 ).
Overall , the Special Programme Exhibition fostered teamwork , communication , and problem-solving skills . Students shared their projects , collaborated to brainstorm ideas , prototyped solutions , and refined their work through multiple iterations . Presenting their projects publicly also helped them enhance their confidence and public speaking abilities while developing practical solutions for real-world issues .
