Mdm Lee Pick Siew has been a remarkable teacher at SJI from January 1996 to December 2024 . She received the Distinguished Chinese Language Teacher Award in 2019 and the SJI Lasallian Star Teacher Award in 2022 , reflecting her mastery and innovative teaching methods . Respected and admired , Pick Siew ’ s retirement marks the culmination of a career devoted to inspiring and nurturing students with patience and IT-savvy approaches to learning .
Beyond academics , Pick Siew created vibrant opportunities for students to connect with Chinese language and culture . She organised events like storytelling contests , song competitions , and celebrations for Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival , fostering cultural appreciation and engagement . Her efforts made language learning dynamic , relevant , and deeply impactful .
From 2001 to 2024 , she led the Society of St . Vincent De Paul ( SSVP ), instilling values of service and compassion . Under her guidance , students engaged in meaningful community work , including visits to nursing homes , fundraising , and organising celebratory events for the elderly . Her leadership transformed SSVP into a platform for students to develop empathy , adaptability , and communication skills while making a difference .
Known for her genuine care and dedication , Pick Siew has left an indelible mark on SJI , shaping students into compassionate individuals who contribute meaningfully to society . Her legacy of excellence , kindness , and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her .
Mr William Tan retires after 24 years of exemplary service in education , including 12 impactful years at SJI . His passion for physics , dedication to student growth , and collaborative spirit have left a lasting legacy .
William ’ s enthusiasm for physics has inspired countless students to approach the subject with curiosity and excitement . Whether unraveling the properties of waves or explaining Newtonian physics , he brought science to life , fostering a love for the subject that endures . Open to feedback , William continuously refined his teaching , integrating innovative technology , project-based learning , and hands-on experiments to make physics accessible and engaging for diverse learners .
Beyond academics , William prioritised his students ’ holistic development , creating a nurturing environment where they felt valued and supported . He recognised that success goes beyond grades , taking time to address their emotional and social wellbeing .
As a Tennis CCA teacher , William ’ s calm and steadfast leadership brought stability and structure to the team , effectively managing players across all divisions . His unwavering commitment and positive attitude inspired his colleagues and students alike .
A humble and generous colleague , William contributed meaningfully to curriculum development and school initiatives , earning the respect and admiration of his peers .
We celebrate William ’ s remarkable contributions to SJI by wishing him fulfilment and joy in the next chapter of his life . His passion , humility , and dedication have profoundly impacted the community , and his influence will inspire future generations .
